44 Days of Witchery, Day 30: Witchy tools: wand.

I have two. Made them both. One is a piece of driftwood, because I felt that contained all the elements (earth, fire — sun, water, air). I carved it a bit and put a crystal in the tip before wrapping it up in leather. Eventually the leather came off and I wrapped it up in red and white ribbons.

The other is cedar, carved by me in First Nations class. I carved the word “MUDBLOOD” into the handle, and it’s shaped like a Harry Potter wand. I use it magically.

Water element.

Emotions. Something I don’t have a handle on.

I’m very passionate, but I suck at the emotional communication thing (water and air, my weak spots). I try not to connect with my emotions because they hurt too much. I run off instinct and intuition and the one feeling I allow myself to connect with is passion.

I’m terrified of drowning, tidal waves, and the ocean. Well not so much the last one since meeting Manannan, but it’s been a long-held fear. I still fear sharks and jellyfish. (I lived in Hawaii for 10 years — it’s a rational fear to hold.)

I love the rain, however, and rain/lightning storms. Which is good, I guess, as churning water (waterfalls and rain) releases negative ions, which make us feel good.

That’s the science behind it. I like the rain because it’s beautiful, and, well, Manannan is in it.

I leave you with one of my favourite scenes from V for Vendetta:

Speaking of, I’m going to go watch that film again.

44 Days of Witchery, Day 28: A picture of a witchy I-Want-It-Now!

I assume that means something Witchy that I really want.

I didn’t have an answer ready for this question, as I’ve been trying to avoid looking at witchy things…I have a tendency to buy them too often.

So now I’ve gone to Azure Green and perused their items and found too much!

(Picture heavy, so rest of post is behind a cut.)

44 Days of Witchery, Day 25: How do your close ones feel about your witchy path? Do they know? Why or why not?

Anyone I consider close knows about my path, and those that have a problem with it are not close for long.

My religion is private, but it’s intensely important to me that those I am close with respect that my faith is serious and important to me. If they’re going to treat it like it’s a “quaint little hobby” I’ve picked up, or tell me that having faith at all makes me stupid, or any of the other myriad offensive things that have been done and said to me, they can fuck right off.

No friendship is worth that headache. Gods before … um… mortals. So does not have the same ring as “Bros before hos” or “Sistas before mistas”.

44 Days of Witchery, Day 24: Your moon sign.

Sagittarius.

This is what about.com has to say on Moon in Sadge:

The Sagittarius Moon can be described as radiant, fun and visionary, with many notable pioneers born under this sign. They’re often optimistic about the future and open hearted, both qualities of which can be contagious. They appreciate life as a grand adventure, and never stop exploring and learning new things.

The public style of the Moon in Sagittarius is engaging and light, and they’re sure to hold their own in large gatherings. Their curiosity keeps them asking the questions, and putting people at ease with their sharp insights and wit. They’re at their best with a varied social calendar as they adapt to and enjoy being around people of different cultures and outlooks.

The Moon in Sagittarius gets flashes of inspiration, along with the hopeful optimism to bring their many ideas to fruition. They’re risk takers, and often will shrug off warnings from others, drawing on a well of trust in both fate and their instincts. More cautious souls might find them reckless, but then stand back and watch in amazement all those times when luck is on their side.

In romance, the “Sadge” Moon thrives with a mate that is a fellow traveler on a parallel path. They have a need for complete emotional freedom from a partner that can keep up with their active pace. Life’s banquet can be savored together for as long as it stays a vital match, for they’ll shake free of anything that has lost its luster.

The Moon in Sagittarius has a mission, and can’t be held back by outdated relationships or ideas. Their province is the future, so there has to be a swiftly evolving nature to their work and love lives. Along their speedy way, they’ll shine a focused light on lost dreams and leave a wake of encouragement and inspiration behind them.

Pretty much correct. A few things don’t jive, but not everything in astrology is correct. Obviously.

A favourite candle.

Nanaimo-20110926-00035I have a big, yellow jar candle that smells like maple-walnut. I think it’s a Martha Stewart candle, but that doesn’t really matter (I bought it at Liquidation World because of how it smelled — like my bedroom in our home in Kihei, when I went to high school).

It sits on my stove, along with a bundle of sage and a clear quartz crystal. I light it when I cook, clean, or sometimes just because. It’s my hearth candle — cooking and cleaning are things that I connect with Brighid, so I light it for Her.

I have a picture of this candle, but I can’t find the mini-SD card adapter for my phone card, so on my phone it stays. I am lazy. Found it.

Christmas tree

Pine needles.

When I lived in Hawaii we couldn’t afford to buy a real pine tree every year for solstice, so we got a fake one. In order to make things more real, we also bought a spray to be used on said tree that would make it smell like a real pine tree.

When I was young, I lived in Belcarra, out past Lake Sasamat and Anmore in British Columbia. We always had a very large Christmas tree, which we would decorate not only with standard ornaments but also garlands of popcorn and cranberries — high enough, of course, so the dogs wouldn’t eat them, take down the entire tree, destroy the Great Room, and get thread tangled up in their guts. (We had a dog named Toyon who was terminally stupid, and I was known to quip “Toyon a meathead!” Somehow he survived to die of old age; I put it entirely to our making sure he didn’t earn a Darwin Award. Had to be super-vigilant.)

Those early days were, despite their numerous problems and dysfunctions, some of the happiest of my life. After my parents’ marriage — and my life — fell apart, I found myself constantly trying to re-capture the essence of those happy holly days (while simultaneously suppressing specific memories of said days).

To this day, pine needles evoke a sense of happiness, health, and wealth to me. (Which is why pine is also a prosperity association to me.)
